The biggest party ever happened forty years ago and we're celebrating! The legendary Woodstock Music & Arts Fair was a happening at Yasgar's farm outside Bethel, New York, August 15-18, 1969. Better known simply as Woodstock (named for a town 43 miles away), it was of course much more than just a party. An experience! This generation was unified by a belief that peace, love and togetherness was the way. The enormous crowd,"half a million strong," endurred much rain thru the weekend to come together in harmony and get off on over thirty of the hottest rock stars of the day — many of whom are still touring, selling music and winning awards. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; Jefferson Airplane; Santana; Creedence; Joe Cocker; Sly & The Family Stone; The Who; Blood, Sweat & Tears; Janis Joplin; Leon Russell; Sha-Na-Na; Melanie; Canned Heat; John Sebastian; Grateful Dead; Jimi Hendrix. Right on!

Like so many Americans, I am saddened by the loss of Walter Cronkite. Rightly dubbed "the most trusted man in America," Walter once worked at WKY Radio (where I would later work for nine years) as the OU Football play-by-play announcer in 1937. He passed from a cerebral vascular disease at his Manhattan home last night surrounded by family at age 92. Perhaps his most memorable moment for me personally was his tearful announcement on CBS that JFK had died which I remember seeing as it happened in my Art class at Northeast. His astute assessment of the Vietnam war after visiting there and his emotional live coverage of the first manned moon landing by Apollo 11 almost exactly forty years ago are also like bookmarks on my life. He will forever remain among the very greatest broadcasters and jounalists in both Oklahoma and U.S. history.

Sir Paul McCartney is returning to Oklahoma next month for his second ever performance in the Sooner State. Although he made news when he unexpectedly came to Oklahoma City last year and hung out a bit in Bricktown, his only other state concert was about seven years ago at the Ford Center which was one of its top five grossing shows, the others being Elton John / Billy Joel, Stones, Fleetwood Mac and Eagles. Yesterday, word of Paul's upcoming Tulsa show leaked unofficially when Macca's guitarist Rusty Anderson posted info about it along with another not-yet-announced show in Dallas two nights later at Cowboys Stadium on his MySpace page. Within hours the shows were confirmed.

Paul will kick off the first anniversary celebration of the beautiful BOK Center on Monday, August 17. Tickets go on sale at 10am July 20 at the BOK Arby’s Box Office and Tickets.com outlets. Michael Jackson was found this afternoon at his home in Los Angeles unconscious and not breathing. He was immediately rushed to the UCLA Medical Center. His death was confirmed several hours later. The King of Pop has long held the record for the biggest selling album in U.S. history, Thriller, which was number one 37 weeks and on the Billboard chart 91, selling 26 million copies! His biggest hit ever was "Billie Jean."

Memorial Day – originally called Decoration Day – is observed each year in the United States on the last Monday of May to commemorate U.S. men and women who died while serving in the military. This federal holiday dates back to the Civil War when it was enacted to honor Union soldiers. After World War I, however, it came to include American casualties of any war or military endeavor.

Millions of Americans on Memorial Day honor other family members who have passed on. It is a time when many visit cemeteries and memorials. A national moment of remembrance takes place at 2pm Central Time each Memorial Day. Traditions include flying the United States flag at half-staff from dawn until noon. Volunteers often place American flags on gravesites at National Cemeteries.

Wishing a Happy Mother's Day to all my listeners who are mothers and to all mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers of each of you!

It is also a good time to reflect upon all those mothers who are no longer with us.

Where would any of us be without mothers?
