Support Our Troops

KOMA is taking Oklahoma's messages of support to our injured troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The 2008 "Sign the Banner" campaign kicked off in New York City on New Year's Eve when Oklahoma's Showcase Singers performed a tribute concert in Times Square and for the firefighters at the Chinatown fire station.

We continued the campaign by giving Oklahomans the opportunity to sign our banners at festivals and events all over the state. 68 KOMA banners with over 4000 messages were collected!  The banners were personally delivered by KOMA's Kent Jones along with the Showcase Singers as they performed for our troops at the Walter Reed Medical Center on August 22nd.

Kent was honored to host the trip in 2004 and saw firsthand how much our troops have sacrificed and how much the support meant to them.  The experience was equally moving this time.  The troops and their families enjoyed a barbecue dinner and entertainment.  Some even took the mic to sing one of their favorites.  It was a great time.
Thank you for your participation in this campaign.

Our next visit to Walter Reed Medical Center is being planned for January.  Check back here for details on how you can participate by signing a banner at a supporting location.
